Maths & English Support for Students

We are committed to supporting every student to achieve their full potential in Maths and English. We offer both GCSE resits and Functional Skills qualifications, depending on your prior achievements.

Who Is Eligible?

Maths and English sessions are only available to students who are:

  • Enrolled on a study programme with us
  • Or working towards an apprenticeship through our training
  • We are happy to review individual circumstances.

These qualifications are a vital part of your programme and future progression – whether into work, further education, or higher-level training.

What We Offer

  • GCSE Resits
For students who achieved a Grade 3 in Maths or English at school, you will be enrolled onto a GCSE resit course in the relevant subject(s). These courses are designed to help you achieve a Grade 4 or higher, which is considered a standard pass.
  • Functional Skills
For students who did not achieve a Grade 3 or above, we offer Functional Skills qualifications in English and/or Maths, starting at the appropriate level (usually Entry Level 3, Level 1, or Level 2 depending on your initial assessment).

Weekly Timetabled Support

All Maths and English learning is delivered through weekly, timetabled sessions as part of your overall programme. These sessions are:

  • Tailored to your current level
  • Delivered by experienced tutors
  • Focused on helping you build skills and confidence
  • Designed to prepare you for formal assessment at the right time

Attendance at these sessions is compulsory if you do not already hold a Grade 4 or equivalent in English or Maths.

ICT in Vocational Learning

We recognise that strong ICT skills are essential for success in both education and the workplace. That’s why ICT is fully embedded across all of our vocational programmes, supporting learners to develop the digital skills needed for their qualifications and future careers.

How ICT Is Used in Your Vocational Programme

Throughout your course, you will be expected to use ICT tools and platforms to support your learning, complete assignments, and present evidence of your work. This includes:

  • Preparing Assignments and Reports
You’ll use word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word or Google Docs) to structure written assignments, apply formatting, insert tables and images, and use spell check and grammar tools.
  • Conducting Research
Learners are supported to develop digital research skills—learning how to use the internet responsibly, evaluate sources, and reference information correctly.
  • Creating Presentations and Visual Evidence
Many vocational subjects require you to create visual presentations (e.g. PowerPoint or Google Slides) as part of your portfolio or end-point assessment. You’ll be guided on how to use design features effectively and professionally.
  • Digital Submissions and Portfolios
You may be asked to submit your work electronically using platforms such as email, Google Drive, OneDrive, or learning management systems. This helps you build familiarity with digital tools used in the modern workplace.
  • Using Specialist Software
Depending on your course, you may also be introduced to industry-specific software—such as salon booking systems (Hairdressing/Barbering), care planning software (Health & Social Care), or administrative tools (Business Administration).

Why ICT Matters

Embedding ICT into your vocational programme helps you to:

  • Develop essential digital literacy skills
  • Communicate effectively using technology
  • Meet qualification and assessment requirements
  • Prepare for the demands of real working environments
  • Build confidence using digital tools and platforms

Support with ICT

We understand that not all learners are confident using ICT at first. That’s why our tutors are here to support you at every stage. We’ll help you build your skills over time and ensure that you feel comfortable and capable when using technology for your learning.
