Here is Wendy’s story… How rewarding!

09 Jan 2025

In 2017, I transitioned from the Education sector to Health and Social care after caring for a relative with lung cancer, which highlighted the importance of supporting those who lose their independence due to illness. After my relative’s passing, I began my care career as a Care Assistant in residential care in East Staffordshire, eventually advancing to Senior Care Assistant. These roles provided me with valuable experience, knowledge, and skills that are transferable across the care sector.

In May 2021, I joined Home Instead in Burton-upon-Trent as a Care Professional, transitioning to Domiciliary Care. This role allowed me to provide personalised support, build deeper connections with clients, and care for remarkable individuals while learning from their fascinating life stories and experiences.

In August 2023, I was offered the chance to study for the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification, which I eagerly accepted. Although I became seriously ill and had to take time off work, during my studies, the support from E.Quality Training, my Tutor, and my colleagues at Home Instead motivated me to continue.

After returning to work, I was promoted to Group Compliance Coordinator and began assisting with training new and existing Care Professionals. This role has provided opportunities to attend Train the Trainer courses in areas such as Catheter and Convene, Medication Assessors, Respiratory Management, and Stoma Management, enabling me to lead workshops and field training, and support Care Professionals in becoming more competent and confident in meeting client needs.

Through perseverance and dedication, I earned my Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification. I am proud of this achievement and appreciative of the support from my Home Instead colleagues and my E.Quality Training Tutor. This qualification has allowed me to take on more responsibility, particularly in training Care Professionals, and the knowledge I gained has helped me thrive in my new role.
